Gators to test each other at Gator Charity Challenge tonight at The Swamp

The Gator football team has spent much of the summer participating in strength-and-conditioning drills.
Fans can get their first glimpse of the new-look 2011 Gators tonight at the Fourth Annual 2011 Gator Football Charity Challenge at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. The event starts at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

The event is an opportunity for the Gators to test their skills out against each other before fall camp starts next week. It's also for a good cause. Fans are being asked to bring canned food items and other goods to donate to the Salvation Army of Alachua County.
As for the competition, the Gators will split into six teams and compete in three different events: sled push, tug-of-war and torpedo hold. Here is a look at the teams and their captains:
Team Takeover: Andre DeBose, Shariff Floyd, Xavier Nixon, Deonte Thompson
Trend Setters: John Brantley, Jeremy Brown, Quinton Dunbar, Dominique Easley
Against All Odds: Jeff Demps, Jon Halapio, Moses Jenkins, Ronald Powell, Jordan Reed
Team BEDICK: Jon Bostic, Omarius Hines, Omar Hunter, Matt Patchan
Team Pandemonium: Matt Elam, Will Green, Lerentee McCray, Chris Rainey
Go Gettas: Trey Burton, Frankie Hammond, Jon Harrison, Jaye Howard, Jelani Jenkins
If you're like me and wondered what Team BEDICK stands for, it's an acronym for Belief, Effort, Discispline, Intensity, Consistency and Knowledge.
If you do show up and want to know what's going on down on the field, the sled push competition is going to be held in the north end zone, the tug-of-war at midfield, and the torpedo hold on the home sideline toward the south end zone.

Round 1: Sled push -- Team Takeover vs. Trend Setters; Tug-of-war -- Against All Odds vs. Team BEDICK; Torpedo hold -- Pandemonium vs. Go Gettas; Round 2: Sled push -- Team BEDICK vs. Pandemonium; Tug-of-war -- Team Takeover vs. Go Gettas; Torpedo hold -- Trend Settas vs. Against All Odds; Round 3: Sled push -- Against All Odds vs. Go Gettas; Tug-of-war -- Trend Setters vs. Pandemonium; Torpedo hold -- Team Takeover vs. Team BEDICK.
