Gators head coach Will Muschamp knows what it's like to be a walk-on. Right after high school he dreamed of walking on with the Gators. When that didn't work out, Muschamp decided to walk-on at Georgia.
Muschamp immediately stood out and was placed on scholarship by then-Georgia coach Ray Goff as a redshirt freshman.
By his senior season, Muschamp was one of the Bulldogs' co-captains as a hard-hitting safety.
On Friday Muschamp awarded four Florida walk-ons scholarships: punter David Lerner, defensive back Tim Clark, linebacker Scott Peek and tight end William Steinmann. Lerner is currently winning the job at punter over true freshman Kyle Christy.
"I know I'll never forget the day that I was awarded a scholarship," Muschamp said Saturday. "I told our scholarship guys, 'Sometimes you take things for granted as far as what you have, and to complain and moan about some things and have these guys paying for what they want to have -- they want to be in your shoes.' "
