
Several Gator Sports Met with the Media on Monday

The Florida cross country teams kick off the 2011 season on Friday at the Western Carolina Invitational in Cullowhee, N.C. For the first time in six years, the Gators will start the cross country season on the road with two meets before returning home for the 23rd annual Mountain Dew Invitational.
The Gator women's squad was picked to finish first in the SEC, while the men were tabbed to finish third in the 2011 SEC Preseason Poll last Thursday. Florida's women will look to three-peat after back-to-back conference championships in 2009 & 2010.

The No. 8-ranked Gators (3-1) play host Texas Tech on Fri., Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. in the team?s home opener. Gator All-Americans and 2011 U.S. World Cup players Heather Mitts and Abby Wambach will sign autographs post-match Friday.
Florida has opened its 2011 season with wins against Miami (2-0), Florida International (2-0) and No. 18 Texas A&M (3-2) and a loss to No. 15 UCLA (2-0).
Lauren Embree, Women?s Tennis Junior
Lauren Embree provided the dual match clinching heroics in the 2011 NCAA Team Championship match at Stanford on May 24, when she overcame a 4-0 deficit in the third set for a 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) victory that gave the Gators a 4-3 win and the fifth national championship in program history.
Mary Wise, Volleyball Coach
The Gators (2-0) have a busy week, playing five matches in seven days. The team first plays host to Florida State on Tuesday at 7 p.m., before entertaining the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational on Friday and Saturday featuring Clemson, FAU and Jacksonville. (Florida plays at noon and 7:30 pm on Friday and at 4 pm on Saturday). Then next Monday, Sept. 5, the Gators welcome No. 18 Iowa State to the O?Connell Center in a Labor Day special at 2 p.m.
Florida opened its 2011 season with a pair of sweeps against Boston College (3-0) and North Carolina (3-0) in the Active Ankle SEC/ACC Challenge, where Stephanie Ferrell was named Tournament MVP.
