Elizabeth Beisel Captures Second National Title With 400 IM Victory
Friday, August 5, 2011 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Gator Elizabeth Beisel (North Kingstown, R.I.) swept both IM events at the 2011 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships when she coasted past the field of competitors to capture the 400 IM title in 4:34.78. The win comes days after she was dubbed the 200 IM National Champion and less than a week after the sophomore captured her first world championship in the women's 400 IM in Shanghai.
Beisel's recorded time (4:34.78) at the USA Swimming Long Course Nationals is the fourth-fastest mark this year, behind her leading time of 4:31.78 clocked at the 14th FINA World Championships. The UF swimmer currently carries three of the top-seven times of 2011 with the help of her 4:34.95 prelims performance in Shanghai.
Fellow Gator Teresa Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa.) finished eighth overall with a time of 4:44.96, while Angelina Ballatore (Gainesville Fla.) touched in 4:49.60 to take 18th.
Former UF swimmer Shara Stafford (Topeka, Kan.) touched in 25.79 in the 50 free to finish 21st in the field.
Three Gators in Julia Nagy (Viera, Fla.), Jamie Bohunicky (Gainesville, Fla.) and Ballatore were a part of the women's 4x200 free relay that recorded an 8:19.27 mark to finish 20th overall.
