Florida Soccer Team No. 9 in NSCAA Preseason Poll

The University of Florida soccer team is No. 9 on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/Continental Tire preseason poll. Defending NCAA champion Notre Dame tops the NSCAA preseason poll. In the 17-year history of the Gator soccer team, this is the 15th consecutive season that Florida appears in the NSCAA preseason poll.
The Gators meet four teams ranked in the NSCAA preseason poll during the 2011 regular season. The second weekend of the season has the Gators traveling to Knoxville, Tenn., to face a pair of preseason top 20 teams at the First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic. Florida opens play at the Classic with preseason No. 11 Texas A&M on Aug. 26 and then meets No. 16 UCLA on Aug. 28.
Two teams on the preseason top 25 visit the James G. Pressly Stadium in 2011. No. 5 Florida State makes the trip to Gainesville for a Sept. 9 meeting. The regular-season finale brings No. 21 South Carolina to Pressly Stadium for an Oct. 28 match scheduled to air on FS-Florida.
One additional Gator opponent, Georgia, received votes in the 2011 NSCAA preseason rankings. Florida opens league play at Georgia on Sept. 23.
During the 2010 season, Florida turned in a record of 19-2-3 and advanced to the NCAA Second Round. Florida swept the Southeastern Conference titles, using a 9-1-1- record to win its fifth consecutive regular season crown and also won the league tournament.
The Gators will hold an intrasquad scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 12 at 7 p.m. on the team's practice field located at Florida's Lacrosse/Soccer Complex. No stands are available at the practice field, so fans are encouraged to B.Y.O.C. (Bring Your Own Chair). Florida soccer opens the 2011-10 competitive campaign for the Gator athletic program when it meets Miami in Coral Gables on Friday, Aug. 19 at 7 p.m.
