
No. 9 Florida Soccer Plays Host to Florida Gulf Coast University Sunday

The No. 9 University of Florida soccer team (4-2, 0-0 SEC) meets its fourth and final in-state opponent of the 2011 regular season when Florida Gulf Coast University (5-2, 0-0 Atlantic Sun) makes its first visit to the James G. Pressly Stadium on Sunday. The match begins at 2 p.m. and admission is free to all 2011 Gator soccer regular-season matches.

Fans are asked to trade in their Gator colors Sunday for red, white and blue to honor police, firefighters and EMT men and women for their service to the community and nation. Sunday is $1 Concessions Day as select items are available for just a single dollar.
Sunday's opponents were on the opposite ends of 3-2 matches on Friday. Florida played host to No. 5 Florida State. The Gators twice tied the match, but fell 3-2 to the Seminole in front of a crowd of 4,671 – the third largest in the program's history. The Gators allowed an early goal in the first four minutes, but junior Erika Tymrak, the reigning Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, knotted the match with a 10-yard shot with just 22 second remaining in the half. Junior Holly King scored her first goal of the season off the scrum following a corner kick in the 68th minute. Florida State's Tiffany McCarty scored both Seminole second-half go-ahead goals, scoring in the 55th and 72nd minutes. The last four meetings between UF and FSU have gone to the visiting team.
Florida Gulf Coast is 5-2 this season after scoring the final three goals of the match to take a 3-2 win at FIU on Friday. The Eagles have defeated Eastern Washington (4-1), Charlotte (2-0), Davidson (2-1) and Duquesne (1-0 2OT). Its losses were to Syracuse (1-0) and Miami (2-1 2OT). FGCU is the Atlantic Sun preseason pick to win the conference. Three Eagle seniors appear on the Preseason All-Atlantic Sun team –KC Correllus (preseason player and defensive player of the year), Stephanie Powers and midfielder Olivia Elias. This is the first meeting between the two programs as FGCU received official notification Aug. 11 that it is now an official NCAA Division I member.
