GatorZone to Feature Soccer Team's Camp Blanding Leadership Experience

Tune in to the GatorZone television show on Sun Sports (Gainesville/Ocala Cox Cable channel 48 or 1048) on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 5:30 p.m. to catch a glimpse into how Gator Soccer Coach Becky Burleigh is shaping her entire team into leaders.
The show will feature the Gator Soccer team's preseason visit to Camp Blanding, near Starke, Fla., a training base for the Florida National Guard. The team broke up into groups and participated in a series of timed missions through obstacle courses to help develop each player's leadership skills. Each player worked with her team to help get everyone from one side of the obstacle course to the other.
“There are going to be times during the season that we may be missing a key player, and we expect other people to be able to step up into that role. If they have no familiarity with a scenario like that, then they may not be able to do it,” Burleigh said.
Every player was given the opportunity to lead her team at one point or another, so every person could experience what it was like to be both the leader and a follower.
“We have a lot of leader-type personalities on our team. Sometimes, practicing your followership is just as important as practicing your leadership,” Burleigh said.
The show will re-air on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 11:30 a.m.
