Jaye Howard Named SEC Defensive Lineman Of The Week
Monday, September 26, 2011 | Football
Gators' senior defensive tackle Jaye Howard (Apopka, Fla.) was awarded SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors for his efforts in a 48-10 victory over Kentucky in Lexington. Howard recorded three tackles, a pass breakup and recovered a fumble which he returned for Florida's first defensive touchdown of the season.
The 6-3 295-pound defensive tackle anchored a defensive front that limited Kentucky to 4-of-17 on third downs and 0-for-5 on fourth downs and forced the Wildcats into three 3-and-outs. Howard, who was named Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week in week one, has helped the Gators hold opponents to 56.5 rushing yards per game and 9.0 points per game, good enough for third and second in the SEC, respectively.
Howard and the Gators will take the field next on Saturday Oct.1 when Alabama (4-0, 1-0 SEC) travels to the Swamp. The game is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. and will be broadcasted on CBS.
