The University of Florida soccer team's 2010 Southeastern Conference titles were celebrated at the end of the first quarter of Saturday's season-opening football crowd at the Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
Florida swept the league's 2010 soccer titles, claiming the SEC soccer championship with its 9-1-1 record in league play and defeating South Carolina 1-0 in the SEC Tournament final. The regular season title was the fifth consecutive for the Gator soccer team and the 11th in the program's 16-year history. The SEC Tournament title was Florida's ninth and first since 2007.
The 2011 edition of the Gator soccer team is ranked No. 13 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll and owns a record of 4-1 after its 3-0 home win over Texas Tech Friday. Florida continues its home stand on Sept. 9 by meeting its third top-20 opponent of this young season - No. 7 Florida State. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Pressly Stadium. Admission is free for all 2011 Gator soccer regular-season matches.
The first 1,000 fans Friday receive “Beat FSU” sunglasses. Don't miss the halftime show of the Soccer Collies, where the canine duo will showcase their soccer playing skills. The Gators will sign autographs post-match.
Adam Schick and Matthew Stubbington will cover the action live Friday on WRUF SportsRadio 850 and www.GatorZone.com beginning at 6:50 p.m.
