A trio of Gators have been named to the rosters of the inaugural Battle of Florida game set to take place at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton later this month. Wide receiver Deonte Thompson (Belle Glade) and offensive lineman Dan Wenger (Coral Springs) have been named to the South roster while defensive end William Green (Hoover, Ala.) was selected to the North roster.
The coaches for the game will be former Florida State head coach Bobby Bowden and former Miami (Fla.) and Florida Atlantic head coach Howard Schnellenberger. Bowden will be coaching the North while Schnellenberger will coach the South.
Thompson, who led all wide receivers in catches this past season for the Gators, finished his career at UF with 101 catches for 1,446 yards and nine touchdowns, including one earlier this month in the Gator Bowl against Ohio State. Thompson played in all 13 games this past season while registering 10 starts.
Wenger, a transfer from Notre Dame, started 11 games for the Gators during the 2011 season. Wenger provided a veteran presence along the Gators youthful line during a transition into a new offensive scheme in his lone season for the Orange and Blue.
Green appeared in 53 games in his career and collected 53 tackles, 11 tackles for losses and two and half sacks. The defensive end recorded six starts in his UF career, including the 2012 Gator Bowl.
The Game is schedule for January 21 at 8 p.m. ET and will be televised nationwide by Fox College Sports. For more information regarding the game, click here.
