The Battle of Florida game played Saturday night in Boca Raton at FAU Stadium featured three former Gators, Deonte Thompson (Belle Glade) Dan Wenger (Coral Springs) and William Green (Hoover, Ala.). Wenger and Thompson played for the South team while Green participated for the North squad. Bobby Bowden's North team blew out Howard Schnellenberger's South squad in the inaugural all-star game, 51-3.
Thompson led the South in receptions with three for 24 yards. He also added three kick returns for 80 yards. Wenger saw significant time on the offensive line for the South and Green collected two tackles and one quarterback hurry for the North.
Thompson, who led all wide receivers in catches this past season for the Gators, finished his career at UF with 101 catches for 1,446 yards and nine touchdowns, including one earlier this month in the Gator Bowl against Ohio State. Thompson played in all 13 games this past season while registering 10 starts.
Wenger, a transfer from Notre Dame, started 11 games for the Gators during the 2011 season. Wenger provided a veteran presence along the Gators youthful line during a transition into a new offensive scheme in his lone season for the Orange and Blue.
Green appeared in 53 games in his career and collected 53 tackles, 11 tackles for losses and two and half sacks. The defensive end recorded six starts in his UF career, including the 2012 Gator Bowl.
