Coach Holloway Discusses New Florida Records, Previews Texas A&M Challenge
Monday, January 23, 2012 | Track and Field
University of Florida track and field head coach Mike Holloway addressed the media Monday morning as part of the Gators' All-Sports Media Day.
Coach Holloway recapped the Gators' past two performances, the Alabama Invitational and the Gator Invite. Both events featured new Florida records, as senior Kemal Mesic (Sarajevo, Bosnia) bested his own men's indoor shot put record with a toss of 19.95m/65-05.50, and junior Jeremy Postin (Auburndale, Fla.) set a new Florida record in the weight throw with a mark of 21.31m/69-11 at the Gator Invite on Sunday.
Holloway also discussed the recent performances of freshman jumper Taylor Burke (Medina, Ohio), who splits her time as the starting goalkeeper for the Florida soccer team with competing in the high jump for the Gators. Sprinters Tony McQuay (Riviera Beach, Fla.) and Jeff Demps (Winter Garden, Fla.) were also topics of discussion, as well as another two-sport athlete, freshman thrower Hunter Joyer (Wesley Chapel, Fla.).
The Gators will look to build off their strong performances over the last two weeks by participating in the Big 12 vs. SEC Challenge, held on the campus of future SEC member Texas A&M. The Texas A&M Challenge takes place on January 27 & 28 at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.
