The University of Florida's Kytra Hunter (Frederick, Md.) is the Southeastern Conference Freshman Gymnast of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. University of Arkansas sophomore Katherine Grable is the SEC Gymnast of the Week.
Hunter had an impressive performance in her Southeastern Conference debut last Friday. She used collegiate-best scores to collect four event titles in Florida's meet against Kentucky with vault (9.925), uneven bars (9.875) and balance beam (9.85) wins and a third consecutive all-around (39.475) win. She also posted a 9.825 in the floor exercise for third place. Hunter shared her uneven bars title with junior Marissa King.
With her all-around win at Kentucky, Hunter became only the second Gator since 1987 to open her collegiate career with three all-around titles. Junior Ashan?e Dickerson won the all-around title in her first three meets during the 2010 season.
Hunter leads the 2012 Gators with eight event titles, and she owns the team's top event scores on vault (9.925 vs. Kentucky), floor (9.925 vs. Illinois-Chicago) and all-around (39.475 vs. Kentucky).
