Lauren Embree Marches into Semifinals at Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

The University of Florida's Lauren Embree (Marco Island, Fla.) won a pair of matches and advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships at the Riviera Tennis on Friday.
Embree cruised past Penn State's 52nd-ranked Petra Januskova, 6-1, 6-0, in round of 16 before outlasting Tennessee's 18th-ranked Brynn Boren, 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-3, in a three and a half hour battle.
The Gator senior, ranked sixth in the country and seeded third at this national event, faces Southern California's Danielle Lao, ranked 11th and seeded eighth beginning at 11:30 a.m. PT.
Embree began the day pairing with freshman teammate Danielle Collins (St. Petersburg, Fla.) in the round of 16 of the consolation doubles draw and earned an impressive 8-1 victory against Penn's 35th-ranked Julianna Rodin and Agustina Sol Eskenazi. The Gator tandem meets Texas Tech's sixth-ranked Samantha Adams and Kenna Kilgo in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 10 a.m. PT.
Collins came up short in her round of 16 singles contest, as she dropped a tough 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 decision to Virginia's Julia Elbaba, ranked fourth among all freshmen in the country. The setback was the first in 11 career matches for Collins, who magnificently played her way through the pre-qualifying and qualifying draws to reach the main draw, with Friday's match her eighth singles match in nine days.
