Florida, a charter member of the new Southeastern Conference, played its first league game.
Coach D.K. Stanley and the Gators defeated Sewanee 31-0 at Jacksonville.
Jack Henderson threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Wallace Brown for UF's first SEC points, and the rout was on. Henderson later intercepted a pass and returned it 73 yards to set up a score. He also had a 19-yard touchdown run.
Charlie Stoltz had two TDs and Herb McAnley scored on a 62-yard run.
The Gators went on to finish their inaugural SEC season 5-3-1, including 2-3 in league play. Sewanne (pictured above at some time way back when) did not win a game that season.
