Purifoy Named SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week
Monday, November 12, 2012 | Football
University of Florida sophomore defensive back Loucheiz Purifoy (Pensacola) has been named the SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.
Purifoy blocked a Louisiana punt with :02 remaining and Jelani Jenkins (Onley, Md.) returned it 36 yards into the end zone in the Gators' come-from-behind win over the Ragin' Cajuns on Homecoming. It helped complete a 14-0 run in the final 1:42 to close the game for the Orange and Blue and help them improve to 9-1 on the season.
It marked the second blocked kick for Purifoy this season, after blocking a 25-yard field goal against Mizzou a week earlier. Purifoy also recorded five tackles and a pass breakup in the win.
This marks the third SEC Special Teams Player of the Week for the Gators this season and the seventh under special teams coordinator D.J. Durkin.
