Monday, November 19, 2012 | Football
University of Florida head football coach Will Muschamp has been named a semifinalist for the 2012 Maxwell Football Club Collegiate Coach of the Year Award. The list includes a field of 16 candidates for the award which have been selected by the MFC National Selection Committee.
Muschamp has led the Gators to a 10-1 record through their first 11 games, becoming just the third Florida head coach to lead UF to 10 or more wins in their second season at the helm. The 2012 team is the seventh in school history to start a season 10-1 or better.
Florida has beaten three teams currently ranked in the BCS top 15 (No. 7 LSU, No. 9 Texas A&M, No. 12 South Carolina) and finished 7-1 in Southeastern Conference play after going 3-5 in league play in 2011. The four-win improvement in conference play matches the best in program history. In 1954, the Gators went 5-2 in the SEC after going 1-3-2 the previous season. UF went 4-2 in the SEC in 1980 after going 0-6 in the 1979 season.
