Safety Reggie Nelson's end-zone interception in double-overtime preserved a 49-42 shootout victory over Vanderbilt at Florida Field.
Quarterback Jay Cutler (right) and the Commodores nearly beat UF for the first time since 1988, with Cutler hitting 28 of 42 passes for 361 yards and four touchdowns. It was the second of Cutler's two interceptions, though, that proved the difference.
Vandy had four turnovers for the game. Florida had none.
"We didn't play great, but we did what we had to do to win," first-year Gators coach Urban Meyer said.
UF quarterback Chris Leak held his own against the Vandy hotshot, going 32-of-41 for 247 yards and three scores, including a 16-yarder to Jamalle Cornelius in the second extra period for the winner.
