Tuesday, November 6, 2012 | Men's Swimming & Diving
For the second-straight week, freshman Pawel Werner (Wroclaw, Poland) was named SEC Male Freshman of the Week announced by the conference on Tuesday. This is the third honor so far this season for a member of the Florida men's swimming and diving team and Werner's second.
Werner helped lead the men's team to a win over No. 21 Texas A&M Friday at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center. He won the 100 freestyle in a time of 44.98. He later bested that time when he led off the first place 400 free relay group with a time of 44.68 in his 100 free leg, a career-best time that ranks second in the SEC and 10th in the nation. He also helped the 200 medley relay to a second place finish and took fourth in the 50 free.
So far this season, Werner has collected five individual event victories and three relay wins for the Gators. He currently ranks in the top 10 in the nation in the 100 and 200 free, while ranking in the top-10 in the 100 free, 200 free and 100 fly in the SEC.
The Gators will be back in action next week when they travel to Tallahassee, Fla. to face in-state rival Florida State on Thursday, November 15 at 4 p.m.
