Doug Johnson threw for a career-high 460 yards in Florida's 45-13 road blowout of Vanderbilt.
Johnson's total marked the second-most by a UF quarterback under Coach Steve Spurrier, falling two yards shy of Danny Wuerffel's 462 vs. Arkansas in 1996.
“Their plan was to blitz, blitz, blitz the whole game,” Spurrier said. “There aren't many running lanes when they put nine, 10, 11 guys on the line. So if they're going to do that, we're just going to get in the shotgun and threw it up in the air and hopefully catch it more often than they do.”
Johnson didn't get his shot at Wuerffel's record because he took a wicked shot from a Commodore defender in the fourth quarter, prompting Spurrier to yank him from the game.
