Thursday, December 6, 2012 | Football
Four University of Florida rookies earned spots on the SEC Coaches' All-Freshman Team, announced by the league on Thursday.
Three Gators – Dante Fowler (St. Petersburg), Jonathan Bullard (Shelby, N.Y.) and Antonio Morrison (Bolingbrook, Ill.) – earned spots on the defensive team and D.J. Humphries (Union, N.C.) was also recognized on the offensive team.
Fowler, Bullard and Morrison combined for 84 tackles on the season, had five starts and were the only three freshmen on the Gators' roster to appear in all 12 games this season. Fowler had a career-high five tackles, including 2.0 TFL for 11 yards against Missouri, and Bullard tallied a career-high seven tackles in the win over Vanderbilt. Morrison led the trio with 31 tackles this season and had four tackles, including his first career forced fumble against Florida State that set up the go-ahead touchdown.
Humphries has lined up on the Gators' offensive line in every game this season, making starts against Louisiana, South Carolina and Missouri.
The Gators compiled an 11-1 regular-season record and a 7-1 mark in SEC play this season. They will make their 22nd-straight bowl appearance in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 2 in New Orleans. UF has claimed a school-record four-consecutive bowls and will be making its eighth-consecutive January Bowl appearance, the longest active streak in the nation. In addition, the Gators will be appearing in a BCS Bowl for the seventh time, tops in the SEC and tied for the third-best total nationally. Florida's total of five BCS Bowl wins is tied for the top total in the nation and with a victory it will have the top total in the nation in all-time BCS wins.
