Sophomore swimmer Marcin Cieslak (Warsaw, Poland) was selected as CollegeSwimming.com's Counsilman Hunsaker Division I National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week Tuesday evening for his performance at the 2012 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships last week in Knoxville, Tenn.
Cieslak captured three conference crowns to lead the Gators to a second-place finish at the meet, after he touched the wall first in the 200 fly, 200 free and 200 IM. The sophomore secured a ticket to the NCAA meet after he recorded automatic times in the 200 fly (1:42.43) and 200 IM (1:43.01).
In addition, Cieslak assisted on the Gators' four relay teams that made a trip to the medal stand in the second-place 400 freestyle relay (2:53.69) and 800 freestyle relay (6:20.86), as well as the third place 200 medley relay (1:26.28) and 400 medley relay (3:10.45) teams.
For his efforts, Cieslak was selected as the 2012 SEC Male Swimmer of the Year. The award marked the second consecutive year that the Gator has taken home a conference honor following the championship meet as he was named the 2011 SEC Freshman Male Swimmer of the Year.
Cieslak was also awarded the Commissioner's Trophy High Point Award after he collected 60 points throughout the conference meet as the only male swimmer to take home three individual gold medals. With the trophy, he becomes just the eighth Gator to bring home the award from the men's team.
