Wednesday, February 8, 2012 | Baseball
The Southeastern Conference announced its official 2012 SEC Baseball television schedule on Wednesday, the third under the league's landmark 15-year contract with ESPN. Florida will have a total of 12 games as part of the league's regular-season package that includes 66 broadcasts in 2012, as well as another 10 on its regional sports network partner, Sun Sports/FOX Sports Florida. The Gators will also have at least 20 contests carried on GatorVision Online, a live streaming video and audio service available through GatorZone.com.
All of the games from the 2012 SEC Tournament will continue to be televised, with the championship game airing again nationally on ESPN2. The SEC television package is derived from broadcasts on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, FSN, SportSouth and CSS. In addition, ESPN3 will also stream all broadcasts live online.
SEC schools maintain the rights to air additional games not included in the official SEC package with various television outlets, including official SEC television partners. More than 50-60 additional games are set to be broadcast, bringing the total number of SEC baseball games broadcast in 2012 to 120 games or more.
ESPNU's previously announced Thursday Night SEC Baseball Game of the Week will begin Thursday, March 22, at 7:30 p.m. and run eight weeks through May 17. The first Thursday night game will feature No. 1 Florida vs. No. 2 South Carolina in a rematch of last season's College World Series Finals. The weekly game will feature a live 30-minute pregame show from ESPNU studios at 7 p.m. each week, focusing on baseball news and updates from around the league. ESPN networks will air 18 SEC baseball broadcasts this season. All games on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will be broadcast in high definition.
The Gators' first television appearance of the season through the package with Sun Sports/FOX Sports Florida will take place on opening night, when they begin the campaign against No. 16 Cal State Fullerton at McKethan Stadium. The television schedule for O'Sullivan's club also features six games against Sunshine State rivals and three contests against SEC competition. Visits to Gainesville by Vanderbilt (March 18) and LSU (April 6) will be aired, as well as the opener of the series at Ole Miss (March 30). Non-conference matchups with UCF (Feb. 22 in Gainesville), Miami (Fla.) (March 4 in Coral Gables), Florida Gulf Coast (March 11 in Gainesville), Florida State (March 27 in Jacksonville and April 10 in Tallahassee) and North Florida (April 3 in Jacksonville) will also be shown.
The GatorVision Online schedule will begin on opening night, Feb. 17, when No. 16 Cal State Fullerton visits to raise the curtain on the 56-game regular season. All three games of the series between the Gators and Titans will be carried online. Other non-league opponents in the package for subscribers include UCF (Feb. 22), William & Mary (Feb. 24-26), Florida Gulf Coast (March 11), Florida State (March 13), USF (April 24) and North Florida (May 8).
