Wednesday, March 14, 2012 | Men's Golf
Coming off a tie for ninth at the SH Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas last weekend, the University of Florida men's golf team will return to action on Friday, March 16, when it travels to Statesboro, Ga. to compete in the Schenkel Invitational at Forest Heights Country Club.
“The Schenkel is a long standing and great collegiate tournament,” said head coach Buddy Alexander. “It's a great field and a great event and we're looking forward to playing there. Our team has been getting better and should be very comfortable on the course so we're looking to be very competitive this weekend.”
The Gators will send a lineup of juniors T.J. Vogel (Cooper City, Fla.) and Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.), freshmen J.D. Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.) and Eric Banks (Truro, Canada) and senior Zach Lee (Ponte Vedra, Fla.) to the par-72, 6,962 yard, course. Senior Michael Furci (Sayville, N.Y.) will also compete for the Orange and Blue as an individual.
The field at the Schenkel Invitational features three teams, Alabama, Auburn and Florida, which are ranked in the latest Golfworld/Nike Golf coaches' poll, as well as, four of the nation's top-15 golfers according to the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. UF has competed in the Schenkel 25 times in its history, winning the tournament in 1973, '75 and 2004.
