With the addition of two institutions to the Southeastern Conference beginning next fall, there will also be expansion to the league's sports schedules. The SEC announced its conference schedules for gymnastics, soccer and volleyball for the 2012-13 seasons.
Missouri and Texas A&M enter the SEC on July 1, giving the SEC 14 teams in soccer, 13 in volleyball and eight in gymnastics. Vanderbilt does not compete in volleyball while Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, LSU and Missouri field gymnastics squads.
The University of Florida will release complete schedules for gymnastics, soccer and volleyball at later dates. Florida's SEC schedules for men's & women's tennis, baseball and softball will be revealed tomorrow.
The 2012-13 schedule is not based on any other previous or future scheduling formats. The SEC Athletics Directors are currently formulating scheduling principles for the 2013-14 season and beyond.
In the sports of volleyball and soccer, Missouri will participate in the Eastern Division and Texas A&M in the Western Division. In their final season of Big 12 play, Texas A&M was third in volleyball and second in soccer. Missouri was sixth in volleyball and tied for sixth in soccer.
Both Texas A&M and Missouri volleyball teams received bids to the 2011 NCAA Championship. Florida defeated the Tigers 3-1 in NCAA opening round action and Kentucky defeated the Aggies 3-0 in the second round. The Aggies also advanced to the NCAA Second Round in soccer. The 2012 Big 12 Gymnastics Championship will be Saturday, March 24.
The 2012-13 conference schedule can be found on the SEC's official website, SECDigitalNetwork.com.
