Florida Lacrosse to Host "Beat Cancer with a Stick" Game April 1
Thursday, March 22, 2012 | Lacrosse
On Sunday, April 1, the Florida lacrosse team will host its first-ever “Beat Cancer with a Stick” game. The event will take place during the American Lacrosse Conference matchup with Penn State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
This season, high school and college lacrosse teams from around the country, including the University of Florida, have chosen to participate in the “Beat Cancer with a Stick” Campaign with the National Foundation for Cancer Research. The events will promote health education in the community while raising funds to help eradicate cancer.
The National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) is a leading cancer research charity dedicated to funding cancer research and public education relating to cancer prevention, earlier diagnosis, better treatments and, ultimately, a cure for cancer. NFCR promotes and facilitates collaboration among scientists to accelerate the pace of discovery from bench to bedside.
Since 1973, NFCR has provided over $288 million in support of discovery-oriented cancer research focused on understanding how and why cells become cancerous, and on public education relating to cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. NFCR's scientists are discovering cancer's molecular mysteries and translating these discoveries into therapies that hold the ope for curing cancer. NFCR is about Research for a Cure – cures for all types of cancer. For more information, please visit www.NFCR.org or call 1-800-321-CURE (2873).
Fans are encouraged to attend the event to help raise awareness for this cause. Admission to the game is free.
