Four Gator Softball Players Named to NFCA All-Southeast Region Teams
Thursday, May 17, 2012 | Softball
Four Florida softball student-athletes were named to the 2012 NFCA All-Southeast Region Teams, announced by the Starkville-based National Fastpitch Coaches Association Thursday. Three Gators were tabbed first-team selections in sophomore pitcher Hannah Rogers (Lake Wales, Fla.), senior outfielder Michelle Moultrie (Jacksonville, Fla.) and freshman Lauren Haeger (Peoria, Ariz.), while junior Kelsey Horton (Valrico, Fla.) was tabbed a NFCA All-Southeast Region second team pick.
All four Gators are now eligible for selection to the NFCA All-America teams, which will be announced May 30. UF's four overall selections contributed to the SEC's 27 overall athletes named to NFCA All-Region teams.
For the second-consecutive season, Rogers and Moultrie grace the NFCA All-Southeast Region honor roll, as Rogers was on the first team last season in her inaugural campaign as a Gator, while Moultrie was a second-team pick in 2011. Both went on to earn All-America honors as two of UF's nation-leading six last year. For Horton and Haeger, the honor marks the first of their careers donning the Orange and Blue.
Just last week, all of UF's NFCA All-Southeast Region Gators picked up All-SEC accolades as well, led by Moultrie's SEC Player of the Year accolade. Moultrie was named to the first team, Rogers and Horton to the second team and Haeger to the SEC All-Freshman squad. Moultrie was UF's second-consecutive SEC Player of the Year and the fifth in program history, while the 2012 USA Softball Women's National Team member was also an All-Defensive Team member. Horton was named to the SEC Community Service Team, while Horton and Moultrie represented the Orange and Blue on the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District 4 First Team and are also in contention for Academic All-America accolades.
This year's NFCA All-Region honors come a day before the No. 5 seed Gators play host to an all-Florida NCAA Regional May 18-20 in Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium. UF will host FGCU, UCF and USF in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. For the 10th consecutive season, the Gators will host a NCAA Regional at KSP Stadium after securing the program's fifth –consecutive top-five national seed. All seven of this weekend's regional-action games in Gainesville will stream live online through GatorVision.tv.
