Gators Head to California for NCAA Championships
Saturday, May 26, 2012 | Men's Golf
Coming off a runner-up finish at the NCAA East Regional, the University of Florida men's golf team will head to Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., to make its 49th overall and NCAA-best 12th consecutive NCAA appearance. Play begins on Tuesday, May 29, with three rounds of stroke play. After the three days of stroke play, the top eight teams will advance to match play to determine the National Champion.
“We're excited to be going to California for Nationals,” said Gator head coach Buddy Alexander. “We have improved a lot this season and if we can play well enough in the stroke play to advance to the match play then all bets are off because that format lends itself to some unpredictable finishes.”
The Gators will bring a lineup of juniors T.J. Vogel (Cooper City, Fla.) and Tyler McCumber (Ponte Vedra, Fla.), freshmen J.D. Tomlinson (Gainesville, Fla.) and Eric Banks (Truro, Canada) and senior Michael Furci (Sayville, N.Y.) to the par-71, 7,292 yard course.
UF will be the first group out on Tuesday, paired with Florida State and Kent State, teeing off at 7 a.m. PST. Live scoring for the NCAA Championships will be available through NCAA.com.
