Thursday, May 31, 2012 | Track and Field
Junior thrower David Triassi (St. Johns, Fla.) has been honored on the Academic All-District IV First Team by the Capital One Academic All-America® program, presented by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), announced Thursday. Triassi is the ninth Gator athlete this year to be honored by the Capital One Academic All-America® program this year and is now eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America® ballot.
Triassi recently graduated cum laude from the University of Florida, earning his Bachelor's in finance with a 3.88 cumulative GPA. He owns a personal best of 58.41m/191-8 outdoors in the men's hammer, which goes down as sixth all-time in Gator program history. Indoors, the St. Johns, Fla. native is third all-time in Florida school history in the men's weight throw, tossing a 20.77m/68-1.75 mark this season at the Virginia Tech Elite Meet.
Triassi never finished lower than fifth place this season prior to the NCAA East Preliminary Round, earning fifth place in the men's hammer at the SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships and fourth place in the men's weight throw at the SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships. The junior qualified for his first NCAA appearance this year in the men's hammer at the NCAA East Preliminary Round, throwing a personal best of 58.41m/191-8 in the event.
Triassi is just the sixth Gator men's track & field athlete to be honored by the CoSIDA All-Academic program and the first since Enoch Nadler was named All-District IV Second Team in 2007. Triassi earned a spot on the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll in 2010 and SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll in 2011.
