HOOVER, Ala. -- Hey folks, we have arrived here in the Heart of Dixie for an event that is close to Dixie's heart: SEC Football Media Days 2012.
This event officially kicks off the college football season in the eyes of SEC fans and former Gators coach Steve Spurrier is scheduled to kick off this year's show at 2 p.m. Eastern (1 p.m. Central) here at the Wynfrey Hotel by talking about his South Carolina Gamecocks, projected as a favorite to win the SEC East by many analysts.
South Carolina, Vanderbilt and SEC newcomers Texas A&M and Missouri are on tap here on Day 1. SEC Commissioner Mike Slive is also scheduled to deliver his State of the SEC speech around 4 p.m. Eastern.
ESPNU is broadcasting the festivities live if you want to check them out.
As colleague Chris Harry and me, we will be tweeting and blogging and writing stories to post here later today on GatorZone.com.
On Wednesday at 3 p.m. Eastern we will also conducting a Google+ Hangout, a first in GatorZone's history. We hope you'll stop by and hang out with us for a while.
The Gators arrive here Wednesday morning and we will have in-depth coverage of Gators coach Will Muschamp's press conference and will also talk to Gators running back Mike Gillislee and linebackers Jon Bostic and Lerentee McCray.
The Gators will be joined by Mississippi State, Kentucky, Arkansas, LSU and Auburn on Wednesday. The event concludes Thursday with Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia and Ole Miss meeting the media.
The SEC announced Monday that more than 1,100 media credentials have been distributed for this year's Media Days.
Check back later this afternoon for news and notes from today's event. You can also follow me on Twitter @GatorZoneScott, and Chris Harry @GatorZoneChris.
