Former Gators running back Jeff Demps may be spending this fall playing football after all.
According to NFL.com, Demps has filed paperwork to play in the NFL.
Demps announced in the spring that he would not enter the NFL draft and instead focus on a track career. He competed in the London Olympics, where he won a silver medal for running in the preliminaries for the USA's 4x100-meter relay team.
Prior to leaving for London two weeks ago, Demps told GatorZone.com that not getting ready for football season this time of year seemed odd.
“It feels weird for me, but at the same time it feels like I don't have a lot of pressure on me [as a two-sport athlete],'' he said. “It's going to be weird to watch the games and me not playing.”
Demps was a four-year letterwinner who finished his Florida career with 2,470 rushing yards, eighth on the school's all-time rushing list. Demps also excelled on kickoff returns, returning one against Georgia last season for a touchdown.
