Burton appeared in all 13 games last season for the Gators, making seven starts. He totaled 125 rushing yards, scored three rushing touchdowns on 37 carries and 19 receptions for 149 yards and a touchdown. The Venice, Fla. native was a 2010 SEC All-Freshman team selection where he led UF with 12 touchdowns as a true freshman. In his career, Burton has appeared in 26 games with 18 starts totaling 474 yards and 14 touchdowns on 112 carries and 51 catches for 359 yards and two touchdowns.
The Paul Hornung Award is in its third season and is given annually to the most versatile player in college football by the Louisville Sports Commission and football legend Paul Hornung. The 2012 watch list was compiled by a panel of college football experts based on a combination of 2011 statistics, career performance and expectations leading into the upcoming season.
College football fans nationwide will have the chance to vote on the award during the regular season and in the bowl season. Fan voting will open in September and factors into selecting finalists and the eventual winner.
