
Gator Swimmers Finish Competition in London Olympics

The Gators had 23 former and current swimmers compete at the 2012 London Olympics. It was a very successful Olympics for Gators as they hauled in 11 medals total, including six gold, three silver and two bronze.
In the final night of swimming, the United States' women's 4x100m medley relay took gold in a world record time of 3:53.05. Former Gator Dana Vollmer swam the butterfly leg that gave the U.S. A. a commanding lead on the rest of the field. Vollmer earned her third medal of the Olympics, all three were gold.
Also in the field was former Gator Gemma Spofforth who led off the relay for the host country of Great Britain. Spofforth was the backstroke leg in both the preliminary heat and final event. Jemma Lowe also competed with the relay group in the prelims. Great Britain finished eighth in the final with a time of 3:59.46.
Ryan Lochte led the way for the Gators as he collected five medals during the games. Current Gator Elizabeth Beisel, who competed in her second Olympics, brought home a medal in both of her events in London.
