Dallas Baker caught a 21-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to give Florida its first lead of the day and the Gators went on and closed out Tennessee 21-20 before a stunned and bummed record crowd at Neland Stadium.
UF trailed until late in the third period, when Chris Leak hit Baker with the first of their two TD connections, with the second coming with 6:30 to go to erase a 17-7 second-half deficit.
“That was one of the finest team efforts I've ever seen," Coach Urban Meyer said after improving to 2-0 in games against the Volunteers just mere days after lecturing his players about developing more toughness on the road. "To get down 17-7 in that type of environment against that type of talent and no one panicked."
Freshman quarterback Tim Tebow helped ice the game with a fourth-and-inches run with just over a minute remaining.
