A year after playing a scaled back 1944 season of just seven games (two against military bases) due to World War II, the UF football team opened a full 10-game slate with a 31-2 home victory over Camp Blanding's and its 63rd Infantry.
A crowd of 7,500 (good for those days), saw the Gators score a couple touchdowns in the first quarter. Five different UF players scored TDs, including L.B. Dupree. Halfback Fred Hogan led Florida with 56 yards.
Blanding's lone points came on a safety when a snap from center sailed through the hands of Zibby Sklowdowski and out of the end zone for two points.
