With the season opener for Gator baseball program exactly one month from today against Duke at McKethan Stadium, Lisa Gallo from the UF Communications Department asked senior infielder Cody Dent (Boynton Beach, Fla.) a few questions about the upcoming season.
What are your expectations for this season for the team and for yourself?
“Our expectation is to win. I want to win the SEC Championship, make it back to Omaha and bring home a National Championship. For me, I just want to go out there, have fun and play hard.”
What series are you most looking forward to and why?
“I can't wait to go back to LSU (May 2-4 at Alex Box Stadium) because it's such a fun atmosphere to be in. Everything about it is great.”
What do you think Gator fans have to look forward to most this season?
“Watching the young guys step up because they see the opportunity that they have and they're working hard. I think watching them step up and make a name for themselves is great.”
With so many players gone to the Major League Baseball Draft and graduation, what's your role on the club for 2013?
“I'm just trying to lead the younger guys and share with them my experiences at Florida. It's their first time going around the SEC this season, so I'm trying to give each player tips and pointers that can help them whenever I can. As one of only two seniors on the team, I have to lead by example.”
What advice would you give to the newcomers?
“It's a long season, so keep working hard and stay at it.”
What has your four years at the University of Florida meant to you?
“It's been really special. This is the University of Florida for a reason – it's an honor just to be here and play at this university. I've definitely grown as a player and what I've gone through has made me stronger. I've had the best education, I've played against the best competition and this school has made me better all around.”
