Brianna Morgan Marches into Consolation Final at Riviera/ITA All-American Championships

The University of Florida's Brianna Morgan (Beverly Hills, Calif.) defeated TCU's Stefanie Tan and earned a spot in the final of the singles consolation draw at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships held at the Riviera Tennis Center on Saturday.
The Gator sophomore, ranked No. 64 in the country, knocked off the nation's No. 30-ranked player, 6-4, 6-3, to reach the title match where she will play Virginia's No. 9-ranked Julia Elbaba on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET.

Prior to playing in the qualifying draw of this year's Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, the
· highest-ranked opponent defeated: No. 81 Francesca Segarelli (Florida State), 6-0, 6-1, in ITA Southeast Regional Round of 32 (Oct. 19, 2012)
· highest-ranked opponent played: No. 53 Lauren Herring (Georgia), lost 6-1, 3-6, 7-5, ITA Southeast Regional Round of 16 (Oct. 20, 2012)
During Morgan's three-match qualifying run, she defeated players ranked No. 22, 51 and 57. She lost to the No. 2-ranked player in the opening round of the main draw, but rebounded with victories against No. 32 in the first round of consolation action and then downed Stanford's No. 8-ranked Krista Hardebeck, 6-1, 7-5, in the quarterfinals on Friday.
THE SKINNY ON THE RIVIERA:
The Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif., serves as the host site for the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. The national championship, considered the first leg of the collegiate grand slam, began on Saturday, Sept. 28 with pre-qualifying singles and doubles matches, which was hosted by UCLA. Qualifying competition was Oct. 1-2 and main draw action is Oct. 3-Sunday, Oct. 6 at the Riviera Tennis Club.
