
Florida Places Three on All-SEC Soccer First Team; Jordan is SEC Offensive Player of Year

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Three Gator All-Southeastern Conference selections led all programs on the league's first team and Savannah Jordan (Fayetteville, Ga.) is the first freshman in SEC history to be named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Year. Joining Jordan on the league's first team are junior midfielder Havana Solaun and defender Christen Westphal, the league office announced Monday afternoon just prior to the start of the SEC Tournament play-in matches.

Jordan is the second consecutive Gator named the SEC Offensive Player of the Year, as Erika Tymrak earned the honor as a senior in 2012. A Gator has now picked up a SEC Player of the Year honor 13 times in the program's history. Jordan also is the third Gator to be named SEC Freshman of the Year.

First team:
Forward – Savannah Jordan: Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Year – first in league history to be league offensive player of year as a freshman… All-Southeastern Conference first team selection and also part of SEC All-Freshman team… Leads team in goals (20) and points (41)… Goal total is tied for second nationally and is second all-time for Gator freshmen… Opened collegiate career with two goals versus Florida Gulf Coast and three versus Oregon State – that five-goal weekend earned Disney/National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Player of the Week honors… Oct. 28 Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week and College Sports Madness National Player of the Week after three goal weekend (one at Tennessee, two versus Texas A&M)… Three-time SEC Freshman of the Week… Scored multiple goals seven times (2 vs FGCU, Minnesota, Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M and at Georgia; 3 vs Oregon State)… Headed in golden goal for double-overtime win at Mississippi State… Attended U.S. Under-18 National Team camp in Lakeland Ranch, Fla., Oct. 13-17.
Midfielder – Havana Solaun: All-Southeastern Conference first-team selection… Second among Gators with seven goals and 21 points and leads with seven assists… Started every match played… Scored Florida's first goal of 2013 versus Florida Gulf Coast… Turned in double-goal matches versus Oklahoma State and at Tennessee… Career total of double-goal matches now at four… Scored tying goal at South Florida… Hit Florida's third goal at Georgia… Turned in a pair of assists versus Kentucky and at Georgia … Part of U.S. Under-23 Women's National Soccer Team player pool… Joined U.S. U-23 team for three 2013 spring matches played in Spain.
Defender – Christen Westphal: All-Southeastern Conference first-team selection… Started every match at center back… Leads Gators with average of 88.79 minutes per match… Part of Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week on Sept. 11 after shutout wins versus Oklahoma (3-0) and Oklahoma State (2-0)… Named to TDS and College Soccer 360 National Teams of the Week after two shutout wins – at Tennessee (3-0) and versus Texas A&M (2-0) – and providing assist on Savannah Jordan's second goal versus Texas A&M… Named final SEC Defensive Player of the Week of season after scoring on a 40-yard free kick to open Florida's scoring at Georgia.
SEC Freshman team:
Midfielder – Pamela Begič: Third among the Gators with four goals and 13 points… Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week on Sept. 9 after turning at least a point in three consecutive matches, including goals at Florida International and versus Oklahoma… Also scored at Mississippi and headed in UF's first goal versus Auburn...First collegiate assist came in the season opener versus Florida Gulf Coast.
In other awards announced Monday, South Carolina's Sabrina D'Angelo picked up her second SEC Defensive Player of the Year honor and Mississippi's Rafaelle Souza is the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipient for the second consecutive season. Texas A&M's G Guerrieri is the SEC Coach of the Year after leading the Aggies to a share of the 2013 SEC title.
The Gators now head to the SEC Tournament in Orange Beach, Ala. Florida will open play Wednesday at 6 p.m. and will face the winner of Monday's play-in match of Arkansas and Missouri. The Gators are the defending SEC Tournament champions and have claimed the tournament title 10 times in the program's 18 previous appearances.
All action at the 2013 SEC Tournament will be available via web stream or television. The SEC Digital Network will live stream Monday and Wednesday matches and Friday's semifinal matches will appear on ESPN3. ESPNU will cover the SEC Championship match.
