GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Florida's Savannah Jordan is the National Rookie of the Year by TopDrawerSoccer.com, the outlet announced today. Jordan also appears on TopDrawerSoccer.com's Freshmen Best XI first team.
Earlier this month, Jordan became the second Gator freshman in the program's 19-year history to be named a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American. She appeared on the 2013 NSCAA second team.
In her debut season, Jordan tied for third in 2013 NCAA Division I play with 22 goals and is one behind the season's leaders. That total also stands second all-time for Gator freshmen and is Florida's highest season total since Abby Wambach turned in 31 as a senior in 2001. Jordan opened her collegiate career with two goals versus Florida Gulf Coast and three versus Oregon State – that five-goal weekend earned her Disney/NSCAA Player of the Week honors.
She is the first freshman in the league's history to be named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Year. Jordan also appeared on the All-SEC first team and was the SEC Freshman of the Year.
Her 22 goals shared the SEC lead. Jordan scored multiple goals in seven matches.
Jordan is currently at the U.S. Under-20 National Team training camp in Sunrise, Fla., as the team makes final preparations to the 2014 Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) U-20 Championship in January. U.S. under-20 women's national team coach Michelle French called 24 players into the camp that will run concurrently with a U.S. U-23 women's national team camp, which includes Gator sophomore teammate Christen Westphal. Following the camp, French will name a 20-player roster for the U-20 CONCACAF qualifying tournament that will run Jan. 9-19 at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in George Town, Cayman Islands.
