FIU defeats La Salle in Gator Holiday Classic Game 1
Saturday, December 21, 2013 | Women's Basketball
FIU senior guard Jerica Coley recorded her 39th consecutive double-figure scoring game and led the Panthers to an 84-58 victory over La Salle in the first game of the 23rd Annual Gator Holiday Classic held at the O'Connell Center on the University of Florida campus.
Coley's 33-point effort tied for the fifth-best individual scoring effort in Gator Holiday Classic history.
Giving FIU the early lead, Coley put up 22 points in the first half alone, as La Salle scored just 28 as a team. The Explorers played stronger in the second half, led by redshirt junior Alicia Cropper and freshman Micahya Owens who both finished the game with 13 points apiece, but La Salle (3-6) couldn't overcome the Panther's heavy lead.
FIU (4-5) will play the winner of the game between Florida and Tennessee State on Saturday. If the Panthers face the Gators, then tipoff will be 7 p.m., otherwise they will play at 4:30 p.m.
