
Florida places four on NSCAA All-South Region soccer teams

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Four Gators are part of the 2013 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Region teams. Three Gators are part of the NSCAA All-South Region first team – Savannah Jordan (Fayetteville, Ga.), Havana Solaun (Gainesville) and Christen Westphal (Brecksville, Ohio). Junior Taylor Burke (Medina, Ohio) is a third-team's goalkeeper selection.
The three on the All-South Region first team also earned All-Southeastern Conference first-team honors in 2013, with Jordan taking the SEC Offensive Player of the Year. Westphal is making her second consecutive appearance on the All-South Region team as she was a third-team selection as a freshman in 2012.
Here's a look at the season notes for Florida's 2013 All-South Region recipients:
First team:
Forward – Savannah Jordan: Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Year – first in league history to be offensive player of year as a freshman… All-Southeastern Conference first team selection and also part of SEC All-Freshman team… SEC All-Tournament team… Named to College Sports Madness All-America fourth team… Led team in goals (22) and points (47)… Goal total is tied for third nationally and is second all-time for Gator freshmen… Also shared SEC lead for goals… Opened collegiate career with two goals versus Florida Gulf Coast and three versus Oregon State – that five-goal weekend earned Disney/National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Player of the Week honors… Oct. 28 Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week and College Sports Madness National Player of the Week after three goal weekend (one at Tennessee, two versus Texas A&M)… Three-time SEC Freshman of the Week… Scored multiple goals seven times… Headed in golden goal for double-overtime win at Mississippi State… Attended U.S. Under-18 National Team camp in Lakeland Ranch, Fla., Oct. 13-17 and U.S. U-20 camp in Carson, Calif., Nov. 24-Dec. 1.
Midfielder – Havana Solaun: Gator co-captain… All-Southeastern Conference first-team and SEC All-Tournament team selection… Nine assists led the Gators and second with eight goals and 25 points… Started every match played… Scored Florida's first goal of 2013 versus Florida Gulf Coast… Turned in double-goal matches versus Oklahoma State and at Tennessee… Career total of double-goal matches now at four… Scored tying goal at South Florida… Hit Florida's third goal at Georgia… Turned in a pair of assists versus Kentucky and at Georgia… Tore right anterior cruciate ligament in SEC Tournament final and underwent surgery on Nov. 25… Part of U.S. Under-23 Women's National Soccer Team player pool… Joined U.S. U-23 team for three 2013 spring matches played in Spain.
Defender – Christen Westphal: All-Southeastern Conference first-team and SEC All-Tournament selection… Named to College Sports Madness All-America fourth team… Started every match at center back… Led Gators with average of 89.04 minutes per match… Part of Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week on Sept. 11 after shutout wins versus Oklahoma (3-0) and Oklahoma State (2-0)… Named to TDS and College Soccer 360 National Teams of the Week after two shutout wins – at Tennessee (3-0) and versus Texas A&M (2-0) – and providing assist on Savannah Jordan's second goal versus Texas A&M… Named final SEC Defensive Player of the Week of season after scoring on a 40-yard free kick to open Florida's scoring at Georgia.
Third team
Goalkeeper – Taylor Burke: Started 18 of 19 appearances… Nine solo shutouts in 2013 brings career total to 23, which is second all-time among Gator goalkeepers… No. 14 in NCAA Division I season rankings (as of Dec. 2) with goals-against-average of .543 – the lowest season GAA in the program's 19-year history (previous low of 0.567 – Jordan Kellgren/1999)… Season-high saves (5) posted in Texas A&M win.
