Florida Softball Reveals 2013 TV Slate
Monday, February 4, 2013 | Softball
The Southeastern Conference released the 2013 softball television schedule Monday and the No. 14/15 Gators will have a total of five televised games as a part of the package, as well as another four on their regional sports network partner, Sun Sports/FOX Sports Florida.
A total of 23 SEC softball games will air nationally on the ESPN family of networks this season. Fox Sports Net (SportSouth, FS Midwest, FS Southwest and Sun Sports) will televise seven contests, while CSS (Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast) will broadcast five games throughout the season. Combined, the networks will broadcast 35 SEC softball contests this season.
The complete 2013 SEC Tournament will once again air on ESPNU, with the Championship Game slated to be broadcast on ESPN2. The SEC Tournament runs May 8-11 at the UK Softball Complex in Lexington, Ky. Fans will also be able to access the ESPN and ESPN2 telecasts through their mobile devices on WatchESPN.
After kicking off the SEC slate at Auburn March 8-10, the Gators will return to the friendly confines of Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium for their first league home series against the Tennessee Vols. A trio of networks will air the three-game set Fri., March 15 (FSFL/SUN), Sat., March 16 (ESPNU) and Sun. March 17 (FSN), as the series always proves to be pivotal in the SEC Eastern Division standings. The Gators took two of three in Knoxville last season and used a sweep in Gainesville in 2011 to claim their fifth SEC Eastern Division title.
The Orange and Blue will next appear on Sun Sports/FOX Sports Florida in the final game of the home series with the Arkansas Razorbacks Sun., March 24, and then again three days later against Sunshine State rival FSU in a mid-week clash in Gainesville Wed., March 27.
During their second-to-last SEC road series, the Gators and UK Wildcats will square off on ESPNU April 13 in Lexington for the second game of the set, which promises to be an exciting match-up as Kentucky swept Florida in Wildcat territory in 2011 and took two of three from the Gators in Gainesville last year.
UF will wrap up conference play at home against Georgia April 26-28 and a national television audience will be able to view Saturday's match-up on ESPNU, while Sunday's noon game will air live on CSS.
The Gators await yet one more Sun Sports/FOX Sports Florida selection, which will be reflected on the GatorZone schedule when available. Florida will additionally have at a number of contests carried on GatorVision Online, a live streaming video and audio service available through GatorZone. Check the UF softball schedule page on GatorZone.com in the next week for a complete streaming schedule.
The Orange and Blue concluded the 2012 season with a 48-13 overall record, boasting a 21-7 mark in Southeastern Conference play for UF's fifth-straight 20-win league campaign. Florida received a NCAA Tournament bid for the 13th time in school history and hosted a NCAA Regional for the eighth consecutive season after picking up the No. 5 national seed, the program's fifth straight campaign securing a top-five seed.
The Gators played for the SEC Tournament Championship for the fifth time in program history, and were propelled into the tourney championship with a memorable 2-1, eight-inning victory over Tennessee in the semifinals to give head coach Tim Walton career win No. 500, making him the fastest active coach in the SEC to reach the milestone.
UF will kick off the 2013 campaign Friday in Tempe, Ariz., at the Kajikawa Classic, hosted by Arizona State University. The Gators will square off with three preseason top-15 opponents at the season-opening tournament, including dates with No. 3 Cal, No. 5 Oregon and No. 13 Arizona. Florida opens the campaign in Tempe against Creighton Feb. 8 at 5 p.m. (ET).
