The University of Florida's duo who claimed Southeastern Conference event titles Saturday – Kytra Hunter and Bridget Sloan – are part of the 2013 SEC team, the league office announced today.
The All-SEC team is made up of gymnasts with the top two scores (including ties) on each event from each of the two sessions of the SEC Championships. The All-Freshman team consists of the top scoring freshman on each apparatus and the top two all-arounders from the first and second session.
In Saturday's SEC Championships in North Little Rock, Ark., the Gators collected four titles, taking the team win at 198.00 and earning three individual event crowns. Sloan, the 2013 SEC Freshman of the Year, shared the all-around title by matching her collegiate-best of 39.75 and also shared the uneven bars title at 9.95 with Georgia's Brittany Rogers. Hunter and Sloan were among a five-way tie at 9.95 for the SEC floor exercise title.
Sloan's win was her fifth all-around title and she is the second consecutive Gator to take the SEC all-around win, as Hunter took the 2012 win. Sloan has used marks of 9.925 or above to claim each of her five uneven bars titles. The floor mark of 9.95 was a season-best for both Hunter and Sloan, giving Hunter her third floor win of 2013 and Sloan the first floor victory of her collegiate career.
In addition to Sloan picking up the Gators' fourth consecutive SEC Freshman of the Year honor at Friday's award ceremony, Florida's Rhonda Faehn was named the SEC Coach of the Year. It is the sixth such honor for Faehn since the 2006 season and her fourth consecutive. Saturday's team title is the fourth for Faehn in her 11 seasons as the head of the Gator program.
Next up, top-ranked Florida plays host to NCAA Regional action on Saturday, April 6. A top-two team finish would send Florida to Los Angeles for the NCAA Championships, set for April 19-21 in the Pauley Pavilion.
