Graham Sits in Sixth After Day One of Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays Pentathlon
Wednesday, March 27, 2013 | Track and Field
Junior Lorraine Graham (Springdale, Md.) currently sits in sixth after the first day of the women's heptathlon at the 86th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, presented by State Farm. Graham scored 3,285 points on the opening day of the meet, impressive considering the junior is competing in the first heptathlon of her career.
“I'm proud of Lorraine,” Florida head coach Mike Holloway said. “After a rough start in the hurdles, she battled back well to be in the top 10 after the first day. I think she's doing a great job so far in the first heptathlon of her career.”
Graham scored 927 points in the first event of the day, the 100-meter hurdles, racing to a time of 14.37. The junior put up a personal best in the second event, high jumping to a mark of 1.63m/5-4.25. In the shot put, Graham scored 663 points with her toss of 12.03m/39-5.75 to sit in ninth with the 200 meters remaining on day one. Graham, who is second all-time in the indoor pentathlon at UF (4,010 points), finished third overall in 24.60 to score 924 points.
The first heptathlon event Thursday will be the long jump at 12 p.m. ET. Graham is eighth all-time indoors in the event and looks to carry that success into the pit tomorrow.
“I'm looking forward to watching Lorraine finish up, as well as watch the rest of the Gators start things off tomorrow,” Holloway finished.
The field events will kick off for the Gators with the university/college men's hammer throw at 4:30 p.m. ET, as sophomore Kyle Strawn (Temecula, Calif.) will be competing after his PR of 62.20m/204-1 last weekend at the UCF Invitational. The first running events of the week start at 5:30 p.m. ET with the university/college women's and men's 400-meter hurdles. Five Gators will race in those preliminary rounds.
The four-day meet continues Thursday, March 28 at Mike A. Myers Stadium and runs through Saturday, March 30. The headquarters for the Relays can be found here. The official hashtag for the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, for fans who want to follow all the action on Twitter, is #TXRelays13.
