University of Florida senior T.J. Vogel (Cooper City, Fla.) completed the first round of the 2013 Masters Tournament in 77 strokes (+5) on Thursday, April 11 at Augusta National Golf Club. Vogel earned a spot in the exclusive tournament after winning the 2012 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.
Vogel began his opening round with three consecutive pars. The Cooper City, Fla. native was four-over par over the next four holes, recording two bogeys and one double-bogey. He recovered after this stretch and birdied the par-5, eighth hole to bring his score to three-over par.
Heading into the final nine holes of play, Vogel was three-over par. A bogey on the 10th hole and two consecutive bogeys on the 12th and 13th holes put the 2012 PING Division I Second Team All-American six-over with five holes remaining.
The UF senior rebounded and recorded birdies on the par-5, 15th hole and par-3, 16th hole. Vogel had an eagle putt on the 15th hole, narrowly missed, and settled for his second birdie of the day. On the next hole, he converted a 15-foot birdie putt to bring his score back to four-over par for the day.
For his final two holes of his opening round, Vogel tallied a par on the par-4, 17th hole and bogeyed the par-5, 18th hole.
Vogel returns to action at the par-72, 7,435 yard course tomorrow afternoon. He will tee off at 12:35 p.m. with two-time champion Jose Maria Olazabal and current leader Marc Leishman.
