Gator hurdlers Eddie Lovett (West Palm Beach, Fla.) and Ugonna Ndu (Newark, N.J.) will represent their countries at the 27th Summer World University Games, also known as the Summer Universiade, in Kazan, Russia. The event runs from July 6-17 and the Gators will compete Tuesday-Thursday, July 9-11.
Lovett, who switched his allegiance to the U.S. Virgin Islands earlier this year, won the 2013 men's 60-meter hurdles title at the NCAA Indoor Championships with a meet-record 7.50, notching a new school record and racing the fourth-fastest time in NCAA history. Lovett claimed his third consecutive SEC Indoor title in the event, setting the second-fastest time in an SEC Championship meet in 7.54. For his efforts, Lovett was named the 2013 USTFCCCA South Region Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Year.
Lovett was also NCAA runner-up outdoors in the men's 110-meter hurdles and owns PRs outdoors of 13.39 and a wind-aided 13.29, both in NCAA competition.
Ndu became the Florida record holder in the women's 400-meter hurdles with her runner-up finish at the SEC Outdoor Championships of 56.12. Ndu earned three All-America accolades outdoors in the 100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay, running the third leg.
Ndu won her first Nigerian national title in the women's 100-meter hurdles and finished as the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles. Ndu will represent her country at the 14th IAAF World Championships in Moscow this summer as well.
ESPNU will present tape-delayed coverage of the event, beginning Sunday, July 14 at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., as well as Monday, July 15 at 5 p.m. and 11 p.m., all times Eastern.
