The Gators' first NCAA title came in stirring fashion, as the team bounced back from counting a fall on beam, the team's first event, to lead the competition on the next three events. This included setting the NCAA Championships' floor exercise team total record at 49.725. Florida went on to claim a two-tenth margin in the final team totals at the event held at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion on April 21. The title was Florida's first NCAA title and the second national team crown for the program as UF won the final AIAW title in 1982.
Florida claimed its ninth SEC title at the meet held March 23 in North Little Rock's Verizon Arena. After finding itself in fourth place after opening the meet with an uncharacteristic low vault team score, Florida gained scoring momentum as the meet progressed. The Gators led all teams on balance beam and floor exercise to finish the meet with a two-tenths margin of victory. It was the Gators' first consecutive league team titles since taking the 1985, 1984, 1983 and 1982 crowns.
