Three Gators Advance to Regionals Quarterfinals

Three Gators remain perfect in main draw singles and advanced to the quarterfinals of the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships in Atlanta, Georgia, hosted by Georgia Tech at the Ken Byers Tennis Complex Saturday.
Gator freshman Josie Kuhlman, the No. 5 seed, was the first Gator to punch her ticket to the main draw singles quarterfinal round with a 6-2, 6-2 straight set victory over Rasheeda McAdoo of Georgia Ticket. Kuhlman topped Stetson's Arijana Korac, 6-1, 6-0 earlier in the day to reach the Round of 16. Fellow Florida rookie Peggy Porter also took down her Round of 16 opponent in straight sets when she defeated Georgia's Laura Patterson, 6-2, 6-4. No. 14-ranked and No. 3-seeded Brianna Morgan dropped the first set of her second singles match of the day to Gabriela Castaneda of Florida State, 5-7, but remained resilient and dominated the second and third sets, 6-2, 6-0.
No. 51-ranked Kourtney Keegan remains active in the consolation singles draw following a victory over Olaya Garrido-Rivas of USF, 6-4, 6-2, and a Round of 16 win against Caroline Eberhart of Central Florida, 6-1, 6-1.
All three remaining Gator doubles teams advanced to the semifinals of the main draw Saturday morning. No. 4-seeded freshman tandem Kuhlman and Porter were tested by Georgia's Ellen Perez and Mariana Gould, but topped the Bulldogs duo, 8-6. The Florida rookies are 7-1 as a team in doubles this fall.
No. 6 seed Brooke Austin and Keegan moved to 3-0 as a tandem in the tournament with an 8-3 win over Caroline Brinson and Laura Patterson of Georgia. Morgan and Woolcock, the No. 8 seed, remain perfect in Regionals main draw doubles following an 8-4 defeat of Linn Timmermann and Tarani Kamoe of Georgia State. Woolcock and Morgan will face Porter and Kuhlman in the semifinals. Austin and Keegan will take on Stephanie Wagner and Lina Lileikite, the No. 7 seed from Miami.

Peggy and Josie were outstanding in both singles and doubles today. They play with such maturity already, which is rare for freshmen.
On tomorrow's outlook…
Tomorrow will be an exciting day with some tough match ups, beginning with singles. It's day three, and we pride ourselves in being stronger the longer the event. I hope that turns out to be true tomorrow.
