Gator Softball Records Perfect Graduation Success Rate

The University of Florida softball program posted a 100 percent Graduation Success Rate (GSR) during the 2004-08 academic years, according to data released on Tuesday by the NCAA.
Gator Softball was one of three UF sports (women's basketball, lacrosse) to graduate all of its student-athletes during the four-year period, and Florida's 100 percent GSR is 13 points above the federal graduation rate for the sport. Overall, the University of Florida recorded a GSR of 83 percent, which is above the NCAA Division I GSR for all institutions (82 percent). All Gator teams recorded a GSR at or above 71 percent during this period. The most recent Graduation Success Rates are based on the four incoming freshman classes in Division I from 2004-05 through 2007-08.
Over the four softball seasons covered in the report (2005-08), 20 Gators earned 38 selections to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll, with 19 players selected to the league's First-Year Academic Honor Roll. On a national level, five UF student-athletes earned seven Academic All-District honors. This includes a First-Team Academic All-America accolade for Gator Great Stacey Nelson in 2008.
“The academic component is the most important part of everything we do at the University of Florida,” said Head Coach Tim Walton, who took over the Gator program before the 2005-06 academic year. “Our priority is to recruit student-athletes who want to be champions off the field, in the classroom and on the field.”
The defending national champion Gators will conclude their fall schedule on Nov. 9, when Florida hosts Chipola College in a doubleheader. Admission is free, and first pitch from Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium is set for 1 p.m. EST.
