Thursday, October 30, 2014 | Men's Swimming & Diving
The Florida men's swimming and diving team is No. 5 in the initial College Swimming Coaches Association of America rankings, CSCAA officials announced on Thursday.
Head Coach Gregg Troy's Gators are off to a 2-0 start, with Southeastern Conference victories over LSU and Kentucky. Florida's next meet is tomorrow, Oct. 31, at No. 4 Georgia.
Michigan holds down the top spot, followed by Texas, NC State, Georgia and Florida. Other SEC schools in the poll include No. 14 Tennessee, No. 17 Auburn and No. 22 Alabama. South Carolina, Missouri and Texas A&M are all receiving votes.
Following the dual meet in Athens, UF's four remaining duals will be against ranked opponents, beginning with No. 19 Minnesota on Nov. 8 in Gainesville. The Gators' next two dual meets will be on the road at No. 24 Florida State on Jan. 2 and at No. 17 Auburn on Jan. 24. Florida finishes off its regular season on Jan. 31 against No. 14 Tennessee in the Stephen O'Connell Center Natatorium.
In addition, UF will see other ranked opponents at the Georgia Tech Invite in Atlanta (Nov. 20-22), as well as the U.S. Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. (Dec. 4-6).
The initial CSCAA women's poll was released last week and had the Gators ranked in the top-5 as well, coming in at No. 3.
Founded in 1922, the CSCAA is a professional organization of coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of collegiate swimming and diving. The CSCAA Division I Poll Committee will produce in-season rankings of the 25 best performing teams in rank order at the time of each poll. The poll is not designed to predict the results of the NCAA Championship, but rather which teams would win head-to-head against other teams in the country. Rankings are based on performances that have taken place since the previous poll and include invites as well as dual meets.
